dance

Everytime i spy the illustration friday topic i get an image that wont go away... this time...The pied piper leading the children off, dancing, after the towns mayor went back on his word.....unlike Browning in his poem of the tale{im still hunting Grim brothers and original German versions}..who described the piper as a young lad,not a hair on his face..., i see the piper as a wiley fellow... not necessarily all that young...a romany gypsy to the stodgy englishman..one who has travelled and knows all too well the ways of wicked establishments such as mayorships and small town councils...a fellow mistakenly taken for a fool because of his strange dress and mysterious talents

started out as a sketch intended to progress to a full colour wood block print style peice... but time time time...and my revised portfolio work forced it into the quickly-sketch-it-in-and-get-on-with-the-plan realm...and around about the 7th dancing child i realized a-4 was far too small... the border was photoshop rubber stamped...for rushings sake

I like your interpretation of the pied piper as an older fellow, although there's something really creepy about an old guy stealing little children! I love the perspective of him in the forground and the twisting trail of little ones behind.

oh carla.. you make it all sound so creepy!..i didnt necessarily mean an OLD guy... browning seemed to express the piper was a teen.. i wanted to express that he was in his early twenties or at least old and wise enough to understand the limitations of small towns...and leading the kiddies off to a lovely place with more LIFE to it....ok still a little creepy... -sigh-
